Solomon Islands Ambassador in Brussels, Belgium hosts reception to celebrate 41st Independence Anniversary

Solomon Islands Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E Mr Moses Mose, hosted a reception in Brussels on July 7 to celebrate Solomon Islands 41st Independence Day.

In his statement to mark the country’s 41st Anniversary of Independence, Ambassador Mose noted the theme for the Independence Day Celebrations ‘Moving forward in unity to build a stronger Nation’, was indeed appropriate and relevant as we build together as a country to maintain stability and unity.

The Ambassador reaffirmed the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement’s (DCGA) priorities under the leadership of Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, and highlighted the key projects of the government including developments on the Tina Hydro, the Undersea Cable, the Munda International Airport, and  the Fisheries sector which are necessary enablers to create job opportunities, generate income and hence economic growth in the country.

He further acknowledged the EU for their support and development assistance through the 11th European Development Fund, as provided in the National Indicative Programme, and the Regional Indicative Programme envelopes respectively.

He reaffirmed Solomon Islands commitment to join the Interim Economic Partnership (iEPA) with the EU and looked forward to the conclusion of the final processes of its accession to the iEPA

He also conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to the representative of other bilateral and multilateral partners who attended the reception for their support and assistance to Solomon Islands, including the Secretary General of ACP, Dr Patrick Gomes.

Invited guests at the reception include Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic corps, Secretary General of the ACP Secretariat, Senior officials of the European Union, Solomon Islands communities and visitors living in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.
